Introduction: It is God who has placed us “in Christ.” We need to be sure that we are in Him (1 Corinthians 1:30)!
It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. (1 Corinthians 1:30)
And what does it mean that we are in Christ? Here is a short catalog of eleven riches and privileges that belong to us in Christ:
1. Freedom from Sin
In Christ we are set free from sin (Romans 6:11).
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:11)
2. A New Nature
In Christ we have a new nature (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
3. A Heavenly Position
In Christ we have a new position of authority (Ephesians 2:6).
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, (Ephesians 2:6)
4. Access to God
In Christ we have unhindered access to God (Ephesians 2:13).
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:13)
5. The Holy Spirit
In Christ we have the Holy Spirit (1 John 4:13).
This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. (1 John 4:13)
6. Blessing
In Christ we are blessed with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3).
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. (Ephesians 1:3)
7. Being Established
In Christ we are made firm by God Himself (2 Corinthians 1:21).
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, (2 Corinthians 1:21)
8. Victory
In Christ God continually leads us in victory (2 Corinthians 2:14).
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. (2 Corinthians 2:14)
9. Peace
In Christ we can have peace in the midst of the storms and trials of life (Philippians 4:7).
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
10. Healing
In Christ we have healing (1 Peter 2:24).
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)
11. Provision
In Christ we have provision (Philippians 4:19).
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
Conclusion
All of these treasures are part of “the unsearchable riches of Christ.” They make up everything we need. But they will be ours on one condition only — that we remain in Him (John 15:4).
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. (John 15:4)
